Take a Seat

Inspired by another blogger (can't remember who), I fashioned a seat for this piece of lawn furniture out of free deck boards.  I'll probably stain them with some deck stain - maybe the opaque green we used on Potting Bench II...

 and a new top created...

Juggling

 We bought THIS piece (above) at a thrift store yesterday.

 I'm "juggling" its repair and rennovation

 with the completing of Potting Bench III.

Progress reports to follow.

Potting Bench III

 I'm using primarily deck board that I found discarded curbside

for this, my third potting bench/table.

 Using 3 scrap pieces of wood with gentle curves as a base,

 I'm adding a top shelf.

Another scrap piece with a curve that almost matches the curve of the shelf braces

 is an ornamental touch to the front legs.

Progress on the WorkBench/Table

 I removed the top of the 8' work table
and decided to turn it upside down

(the underside had fewer "problems").

After squaring up the base, 

I applied the first coat of paint - an Oops Paint - pale grey.

 After quite a bit of sanding, I applied a stain

to the table's top - "Brazil Nut" .

  

I think it will be a great color contrast to the painted legs.

Color It Green

We went to the hardware store and checked out the "Oops!" paint.

We found this color of solid wood stain 

and decided that for $10/gallon, we would be fine with it!

(Notice the trim pieces that I applied to the front of both front legs.

My wife thinks "it makes" the potting bench.)

I'll add a second coat after the appropriate wait time.

The Composer

 I, Mr. Working Wonder's wife, call him The Composer!

Basically, that's what he's doing - using pieces of wood/lumber that he has laying around to "compose" a potting bench. 

It will be one-of-a-kind.  And I'm going to like it!

So far, not a dime has been spent on this!

That's the BEST part, he says.

A Vacation Project

 In about 3 hours, we had 16 shutters removed,

washed,

 painted,

and rehung

on my brother-in-law's rental property.

Vacation Wrap-Up

 It was a beautiful day yesterday.  

There was a lawn to mow,

whirligigs to repair and repost,

 shutters to stain,

and a bench to repair in hopes of wringing one more season out of it.

 With these maintenance chores completed,

only today (Sunday) stands between our vacation and a fresh work week.

Moving On...

 After completing (and selling) the china cabinet above..

this book shelf is my next project.  

Rescued for a mere $5, I needed to replace a few boards

and mend some trim (above).

 Next I filled in the top with a piece of scrap wood.

I'm debating about whether to put a back on it

(and possibly legs)

before sanding and painting it...

When "Oops" is a Good Thing

We walked into the store thinking "pale grey"
and were delighted to find

this "oops" can of good paint!

I mixed my own chalk paint and went to town.

I'll sand and put second coat on and decide what to do with the inside today...

Let the Games Begin!

Purchased off Craig's List, we carried it home in two pieces...

 

...certainly not without flaws!

My first major approach was to fashion this bottom/top

which will connect the two pieces.  

Next?  Fill in the gap seen at the back of the top part above.

A Project Finds a Home!

 

It's good to know that many of my completed projects

find their way into some great room arrangements!

This dresser is in a nursery and should find multiple uses

in the years to come!

Cedar Chest Update

I'm just about done! 

Cedar Chest Repair

 

 I'm refinishing a cedar chest for friends.

A nice, veneered finish was somewhat hidden by a dark stain.

Below - the newly fashioned lid replacing the original warped one...

Ready for stain & hinges, etc.
